da brdice: Tottenham Hotspur could throw players into a deal for Real Madrid star Gareth Bale this summer, per Marca via Sport Witness.
What’s the word?
Marca continue to claim that Bale could well make an emotional return to north London this summer.
The Wales international left White Hart Lane in a then-world record £85million deal in 2013.
Since then, he has won the Champions League four times, as well as La Liga, the Spanish Cup and three UEFA Super Cups but the fans have not really taken to him.
It is said that Real had expected a bid for Bale, who is valued at £63million by Transfermarkt, from Manchester United, but it remains to be seen if that remains an option after the club failed to qualify for the Champions League this season.
Marca do acknowledge that Spurs will struggle to match Bale’s asking price and his wages but state that either a part-exchange deal or a loan could be a possibility.
Avoid at all costs
What would be the point of Spurs signing Bale at this stage?
They have built a philosophy around bringing through the best young players possible or improving those already at the club.
A deal for Bale would throw all of that out of the window.
He is said to earn £350,000-per-week at the Santiago Bernabeu and there is precious little chance of the club smashing through their wage structure to sign a 29-year-old and nor should they.
Unless Bale is sent to London in exchange for Christian Eriksen on a low-cost loan, Spurs need to shelve the idea of a romantic return for good.
