da esport bet: According to reports in the Sunderland Echo, Southampton and Everton are among the Premier League clubs interested in signing Sunderland youngster Joel Asoro this summer.
What’s the word, then?
da bwin: Well, the Premier League duo are said to be keen on the 18-year-old forward following the Black Cats’ relegation to the Championship, but they could face heavy competition for his signature from Arsenal and Liverpool.
The Gunners are said to be ready to offer £5m for Asoro and teammate Benjamin Mbunga-Kimpioka, who are regarded as two of the Wearside club’s best young players, but it is unclear whether they will be sold while Sunderland are still looking to appoint David Moyes’ successor.
What else do we know about Asoro?
The Sweden Under-21 international moved to the Stadium of Light in 2015 from IF Brommapojkarna, and he made his debut back in August in a Premier League match against Middlesbrough.
The 18-year-old failed to make another top flight appearance under David Moyes but he was given an opportunity in three League Cup matches as he continued his development.
Following Sunderland’s relegation and the probability that they will make more use of their youth system in the Championship, Asoro was expected to be more of a regular but he might not get that chance.
Able to play as a centre-forward, behind the striker or out wide, the pacy attacker is also versatile.
Would he be a good signing for Saints or Everton?
While he may be seen as one for the future if Arsenal were to sign the 18-year-old, it could prove to be a different story if Southampton or Everton snapped him up.
The two clubs have shown in recent seasons that they aren’t afraid to give young players an opportunity and a platform to perform on, and if Asoro shows he is good enough he would get that opportunity.
What’s the verdict, then?
Well, while Arsenal may be the frontrunners for his signature, if either Everton or Southampton were to get involved too it would make sense for Asoro to choose to join one of them, in order to boost his chances of playing first team football.
