da poker: The Champions League is well and truly back, with it’s second round of fixtures taking place this week.
da gbg bet: Gameweek Two saw Tottenham Hotspur travel to Moscow on Tuesday to face CKSA in their first away game in the competition since the 2009/10 campaign – back when Harry Redknapp was still in the White Hart Lane dugout.
It was an intriguing night for the Lilywhites; they dominated in terms of possession and created a whopping 22 chances at goal, but eventually relied upon a 71st minute strike from Heung-Min Son to get three points over the line.
Spurs now find themselves second in Champions League Group E after losing their first game to Monaco at Wembley, giving the north London club a pretty good chance of progressing to the Round of 16.
And just in case you missed last night’s game or simply want to re-live the drama, we’ve got nine fantastic images from Tottenham’s Champions League adventure in Moscow….
The stage is set
It’s all very official, all this Champion League stuff. And nothing could excite Spurs fans more than seeing the club’s official badge laid out on the pitch ahead of kickoff in Russia.
Fans in force
Some Tottenham supporters got to the match early – including the Moscow chapter of their fan base. I know what you’re thinking, but fear not – the rest of Poch’s army turned up in time for kickoff!
Game underway
The match was soon underway and right-back Kieran Trippier, deputising for Kyle Walker, quickly found himself on the receiving end of an aerial challenge from Lacina Traore – who measures in at a whopping 6 foot 8.
Lloris on point
It certainly wasn’t the busiest night of Hugo Lloris’ career, facing just five shots on target from CSKA Moscow. Nonetheless, when the Spurs No.1 was called into action he duly delivered – fighting his way through a crowd of players to get something on this CKSA corner.
Son shoots
After 70 minutes of persistent pressure, Heung-Min Son found himself with an opportunity at goal. He’d missed chances earlier in the match but managed to apply a clinical touch to this one.
Son scores!
Son’s shot was the only from 31 in the match that actually found the net, seven of which he was directly responsible for. So amid an otherwise frustrating night in front of goal, it’s no surprise the South Korean international celebrated jubilantly with team-mates after scoring what proved to be the winner.
Winks makes CL Debut
There’s an impressive array of young talents fighting their way into Tottenham Hotspur’s first team at the moment, including midfielder Harry Winks. Much is expected of the 20-year-old, who signed a contract extension earlier this month, and Mauricio Pochettino appears to be a big fan, handing him a Champions League debut with eight minutes left on the clock.
Final whistle
As the referee blew the final whistle on a hard-fought win for the Lilywhites, Mauricio Pochettino quickly turned his attention to the fans – applauding the supporters who’d made the long flight to the other side of Europe.
Moscow fans in full voice
You just can’t keep those Moscow boys down. Even after the defeat, the CSKA ultras were in full song, ignoring Russia’s ice-cold climate and getting their kits off. In a far cry from what we saw at the European Championships, both sets of fans were relatively well behaved.
