da heads bet: Many West Brom fans have reacted furiously to comments made by former Albion striker Saido Berahino hinting that he would like to return to the club.
da 888casino: The Burundi international was speaking on the Counter Attack podcast [via Express & Star] when he said that he would “100 per cent” go back to The Hawthorns if the Baggies made him an offer in the future. A link to his comments was shared on Twitter by journalist Joseph Masi (via @JosephMasi_Star).
Berahino said: “If West Brom came back in for me, I would jump back – 100 per cent. I support West Brom, I follow their games. My friend (Romaine Sawyers) plays for them. If they came back for me 100 per cent I would go back.”
Now playing in Belgium for Zulte Waregem, the 26-year-old broke through at West Brom in 2013 and famously scored a winning goal at Old Trafford before netting 14 Premier League goals in the 2014/15 season.
However, he was put up for sale by Albion in 2015 over his poor attitude and desire for a move away (as per The Telegraph) and insisted that he would never again play for Jeremy Peace after the club rejected a transfer request (as per BBC). He was eventually sold to Stoke in January 2017 as then-Baggies manager Tony Pulis urged him to “get his act together” (as per BBC).
After going 913 days without a senior goal until netting in August 2018, Berahino was sacked by Stoke six months later after he was found guilty of drink-driving (as per Sky Sports). Last year, he was castigated by ex-Potters team-mate Glen Johnson on talkSPORT, who said: “He had the wrong mentality, the wrong attitude from day one.”
These West Brom fans on Twitter voiced their opposition to any potential Hawthorns return for the 26-year-old:
